Encaustic Cement Tiles FAQ
Encaustic Cement Tiles
Our handmade encaustic tiles are crafted from a refined blend of marble dust, white cement, sand, and natural mineral pigments. Unlike printed tiles, the colour and pattern are poured and pressed into the surface—creating depth, durability, and a rich matte finish that improves with age. The pigment layer typically runs 3–10mm deep.
Handmade tiles offer a depth and artistry that machines can’t reproduce. Each piece is subtly unique—alive with character, texture, and human touch. While machine-made tiles bring uniformity, handmade tiles bring individuality and timeless appeal.

Sealing and Installation
Yes. Like natural stone or terracotta, encaustic tiles are microporous and must be sealed to protect against moisture and staining.
We recommend a breathable impregnating sealer such as Ecoprotec. Apply once the adhesive is dry, before grouting. Allow the first coat to cure overnight, then apply additional coats every two hours until the tile reaches full saturation. Always seal before grouting to prevent pigment staining, and finish with one final coat after cleaning.
Yes. You can achieve a natural matte, high-gloss, or soft wax sheen depending on your chosen sealant and desired effect.
Allow at least 24 hours after the final coat before using the space. This ensures the sealer has fully cured and the surface is protected.
